Have your project recognized! Apply today for the annual ACEC of Kansas Public Improvement Awards!

2024 will mark the 63^rd year that the American Council of Engineering Companies of Kansas (ACEC of Kansas) has sponsored these awards.

Unlike traditional engineering awards that focus solely on engineering excellence, the Public Improvement Awards (PIA) established in 1962 are judged based on the overall benefits that the engineering project has created for the citizens of a community. Every year, ACEC of Kansas presents these Public Improvement Awards to various population categories for both cities and counties in Kansas. 

These Public Improvement Awards offer both cities and counties an excellent opportunity to gain the well-deserved recognition for their public improvement projects. City entries that win PIAs receive engraved plaques at the Kansas Association of City/County Managers Conference, and winning county entries receive their plaques at the Kansas Association of Counties Annual Meeting Luncheon.

Additionally, in keeping with our mission to promote the use of Qualifications Based Selection (QBS) for professional design services, all entries must have been procured using a pure QBS system to qualify. Any projects that included requests for the submission of costs or hours (actual or estimated) prior to a final selection are ineligible for this competition. A copy of the original project request for qualifications must be submitted with the award application. If hiring for the project was done under a sole source relationship, please indicate this in lieu of the copy of the project request for qualifications.

First place awards will be presented to a county with a population less than 10,000 and a county with a population greater than 10,000. The awards presentation will take place on December 4, 2024, during the KAC Annual Business Meeting in location TBD.

Remember, the Public Improvement Awards are judged based on the overall benefits that the engineering project has created for the citizens of a community.
